Soccer, Soccer, Soccer

I just finished playing three games of soccer.

Seriously?

Yes, seriously. I'm in complete and utter pain. Why did I do it? Whyyyy?

I believe I have a few reasons...1 - I'm a glutton for punishment (we all are secretly especially when we know better), 2 - In my mind, I still run, jump, react, kick and block like a sixteen year old. 3- I have no control over doing certain things I love and I love soccer.

It's still a mystery that we got scheduled for three games in a row since we were originally scheduled for only two and then a rain out occurred and the whole schedule changed. So, I blame the rain for the burning muscles that are in the lower part of my legs and the bottom of my feet...Forget it. They are shot.

So, we walked out there thinking we may play one, maybe two games. Never did we actually think we would continue on to game three. Game one was pretty easy. We won 4 zip. The second was a bit harder but we were able to finish up at 2-1. Then, the third game, we were tied 1-1 and went to overtime and then to a shoot out. Robb missed the first ball in. Mike, Ashelee, Joelle and one other guy made it in. The other team didn't miss any so we lost by 1 lousy PK.

Even with the loss after literally THREE hours of soccer play, we had a great time together, laughed a lot and didn't get to enjoy the coolers we had on stand by. (thankful they were there since I got nailed right in the eye)

So, it really is "not whether you win or lose but how you play the game."

Great work VooDoo! Proud to be your captain.

Strengthen Your Body.

VooDoo Posse (my soccer team) - August 2010
Front (left to right) - Joelle K., Jim H., Kathleen G.
Back (left to right) Me, Robb L., Chris L., Rob M., Bryce W., Rich C., Mike B.
Thanks to Gaby who took this photo for us on Mike B.'s new iPhone. We tied our first game 0-0 and then won our second 4-0. After both games, we celebrated since Ashelee D. wasn't there. No. Not really. We missed her and somehow won without her.
I started playing with this team about five years ago...Some of the players have changed but the weekly workout and stress relief has remained the same. Plus, we really love to have some fun which is what I love the most.

March Recap

So, I was just looking at my blog thinking...Ummmm...Where did March go? I posted a few pics mid-month but have been off in la-la land since then. The month of March is always full of good times with good friends.

During the first full week of the month, my soccer team beat the Ma's and Pa's in the playoffs for the first time, I think, in VooDoo history. They're a solid team and seem to knock us out every season prior. We played another game and lost but at that point, we were so happy about the victory over the other team, we went home with smiles on our faces at a game/season well played.

Also, this week the family celebrated birthdays through thought and snail mail to both Trish and Erin. Happy Birthday! We love you and are thinking of you!

The second week of March was Communications Week at Flagler College. I traveled to St. Augustine for a speaking engagement. It was great to hear the collective messages..."Network." "Don't be afraid to do whatever job you're asked to do." "If you have an opportunity to talk with top level management about ideas that can help drive the business, do so." And, my favorite, "work with passion"..Really, be passionate about what you do. Most times, that is the differentiator for those that are good at their jobs to those that are GREAT.

On Friday, I enjoyed getting together at Jason and Bernice's place for their wine tasting event. They had a representative from Trinitas there in their home, sharing the different wines available from the vineyard. Really cool time.

On Saturday, I enjoyed taking my cousin Lanie and my other cousin in heart, Nerissa, to the Farmer's Market and introducing them to three of my favorite things: 1) a bagelwich, 2) a large bag of hot kettle corn and 3) fresh squeezed orange juice. Baby girl was there too and enjoyed hanging out with the girls for the morning.

Later that afternoon, the family jumped in the car and headed to Melbourne for J's birthday party. Baby Girl was so excited and had the perfect dress that her Aunty Soluna picked out even before she was born. Aunty Maria helped her decorate her first cupcake. She crawled around a lot and played with the big kids. J. ended up not liking cake at all. Something tells me that Baby Girl won't have that problem just by her genetic makeup. (We'll see in a few weeks!) After the "kid's party" was over, we ate a lot of really awesome Indian food. The Padilla's and Kriese's were thinking that the food had been served and then Soluna came over to let us know that what we had was just appetizers. We couldn't believe it! Needless to say, we were so full at the end of this party that even though I'm a major cake addict, I had ZERO room left for anything else. That was probably some of best Naan I've ever had along with a bunch of other dishes that I don't know the names of. We left pretty late that night and got home at almost midnight. What a day! I think everyone was exhausted in a good way.

SUNDAY was my birthday! Mr. Wonderful invited as many friends as he had phone numbers to to come over and celebrate around the new grill he got a few weeks before for his birthday. It was all hamburgers, hot dogs and anything else he could throw on there. Really fun! Everyone pitched in so I could get my new favorite thing -- A KINDLE 2!!! So love it! Thank you to everyone for making my birthday so much fun and helping to give me the gift that keeps on giving!

The same week of my birthday is Heidi Hi's big day along with Lori and Wendy. Hope everyone's birthdays were extra special!

Third week of March was full of great food with great friends. Andres and Soluna took me to lunch on Monday at Dessert Lady...SO YUMMY that if I had a saying about how good it was, I would insert it here. Then, the Triple L ladies met up for breakfast to catch up on life and the latest. Friday night, I decided to get out of the house and join in on the Stampin' Fun with the ladies. I didn't do a lot of stamping or scrapbooking but I had a nice time just being out of the house. I think the weekend was pretty laid back. On Sunday, I went to a Stampin' workshop at Diana's and learned how to make some pretty neat cards, including a pop up, and an Easter basket. Really fun.

Then to continue to the birthday wishes, a big one goes to my sister-in-law, Cindy. :-)

I will continue the last week of March on another post. What an awesome month!!

Weekend, out!

Mr. Wonderful and I got up extra early to go to our appointments with one of our favorite people to see -- Jennifer Balestri. She is our massage therapist and someone who has become a part of our family. There are people in this world who are doing exactly what they are suppose to be doing and she is one of them. She has the touch of healing and of comfort. We had tried to get appointments earlier in the week for anniversary #3 but didn't make it since I decided to twist my ankle and was unable to walk and could not imagine letting someone actually touch anywhere near my left foot. So, we went on Saturday and it was one of the highlights on my week/month/year. Mr. W. was there for the first hour or so and then I went in. With my injury, she knew exactly what to do and I even shed a few tears as she was lightly touching my foot. "That feels amazing," I said to Jennifer. She is amazing and has been so good for Mr. Wonderful.

After a relaxing morning, we headed to Melbourne to see R&H tie the Knot. R&H both play soccer and not that the VooDoo Posse put them together but I certainly think we helped bring them closer. Believe it or not, they both played on Wednesday night and helped us win our first game (4-1). The wedding was great. The reception was fun and their favors were cute and personal. We got to spend a lot of time with Nathan and Laura from Australia(other VooDoo teammates) and I did the cha cha slide standing still (not as easy as you think). We got home around 9 that evening and were both exhausted.

On Sunday, we headed to Jax to celebrate Fab Father-in-law's Birthday. Took him to lunch after church and had great dessert with his friend, Tina. She baked a pecan pie and a cherry cobbler. It was sooooo good. I really should learn how to bake but I think it would be the death of me and my already dessert filled hips. :-) After lunch and dessert, we talked for a few hours with ffil and then headed home. It's these very conversations and visits that make me so grateful. It helps me remember that I have so many wonderful people around me who have beautiful stories and great thoughts and so much love to offer the world.

It was a weekend of celebration and of reflection and of thanks for all that has been, all that is and all that will be.
